Vsaka doba ima svoje heroje. Naša reciklira do onemoglosti. Vse skupaj je permanentna maškarada kupljenih identitet. Vladajo stereotipi in mediokritete. V družini je večen odnos roditelj – dete, v službi šef – uslužbenec, v šoli učitelj – učenec. Nekaj postbožičnih pesmi o super herojih (Adamu, Kajnu & Ablu, Nou, Abrahamu, Salamonu, Jezusu, Mariji, Jožefu, Petru & Pavlu, Luciferju, Supermenu, Ostapu Benderju, Martinu Krpanu, Spidermenu, Sv. Trojici etc.) iz Svetega pisma in drugih starih virov. V duhu in stilu ljudskih, gospela & spirituala, bluza in jazza napisal Jani Kovačič, a za sextet priredil Igor Lunder.

Each era has its heroes. This one recycles until exhaustion. Altogether it is a permanent masquerade of bought identities, ruled by stereotypes and mediocrities. An eternal relationship exists in our society between the parent and the child, the employer and employee, teacher – student. Some post Christmas songs about super heroes (Adam, Cain and Abel, Noah, Abraham, Salomon, Jesus, Mary, Joseph, Peter and Paul, Lucifer, Superman, Ostap Bender, Martin Krpan, Spiderman etc.) from the Bible and other sources were written by Jani Kovačič in the spirit of folk songs, gospel & spiritual, blues and jazz. Igor Lunder arranged them for the sextet.

Aforističen stil, ironični silogizmi in otroška naivnost krasijo besedila. Mestni ljudski pevec, izumitelj, raziskovalec človeških duš in nesmrtni individualec. Amen.

Jani Kovačič has been writing poetry, satires and popular songs At the same time he has also been writing complex sound pictures. Aphoristic style, ironic syllogisms and child- like naivety enrich his texts. He is a town’s folk singer, inventor, explorer of the human mind and an immortal individualist. He has a great appre-ciation for human stupidity. “Stupidity is king!” He is a real antihero and supporter of the new humanism and solidarity, brotherhood, diversity and comfortable life. Fame is an unnecessary burden, which makes things predictable. He presented songs of his new cycle Akkkustik teArter at the venue KUD France Prešeren. He gave up publishing songs completely. All we have are his performances and their unique delirium and memory bombs. When Slovenia gained its independence he foretold the period of privatisation in all its forms in his “Tolovajske balade” (Bandit ballads). A year before Slovenia’s admittance to the European Union he predicted a loss of identity and empty greediness in his “Bulvar Bankrot” (2003). He bid his farewell to the 20th century in “Balade s ceste” (Street Ballads) I. and II. His work “PostBožični Psalmi” (PostChristmas Psalms) predicts a new era of post biblical and post- mythical proportions. Amen.

Je leto 2005 usodno? Spirala se vije k nič. Vedno manj nas je. Prvi otroci so pozni in običajno eden. Otroci, zlasti najstniki, zrcalijo naše resnično lice in obup. Kako jih grevamo in kregamo, ko jih v jutranjih urah vozimo iz diskov in žurov zmačkane in zakajene domov! Svoboda in neodvisnost nista nič v primerjavi s toplo vodo, centralno in polnim hladilnikom. In bog nam pomaga! Ojej, ježešna bog pomagaj! Velika ladja psalmov pluje še dlje.

Is the year 2005 fatal? The spiral is winding towards zero. As time passes there is less and less of us. The latest trend is that people are having their children at the end of their reproductive cycles which usually results in only one child. We keep them at home until their testicles dry out and breasts shrivel. Living standards and creature comforts are more important than the future. The epidemic of short-sightedness has taken over every bureau and state office. Everybody is offended, because nobody appreciates them, but at the same time they have long given up on the rest of humanity Helping neighbours is front-page news. Cha-ritable donations ease the consciences the elite. Children – and especially teenagers – are a reflection of our true nature. Just think of how we scold them in the morning while we drive them home from discos all wrinkled and hung over. Freedom and independence are nothing com-pared to warm water, central heating and a full fridge. God will take care of it; otherwise we still have the afterlife. Biblical stories are eternal allegories – we do not want to go anywhere since this world is the best of all possible worlds and God created us in his own image. What divine cynicism! Humankind is only an apprentice, but we do learn and make progress. And God helps us! Ohwow God, help! And Big ship of psalms sails further.

Kdo se smeje?
Le dva miljona, kajti le ti razumejo moj jezik.
Nakar so tu še zadeti hipij, pijani brezposelni, zadrogirani športniki, nafiksani japiji, zastrupljeni intelektualci, zadeti najstniki, prepirljivi politiki…
Ostaneva le ti in jaz.
Midva bi se lahko smejala.
(Če bi se imela čemu.)
Who is laughing?
Only two million who understand my language.
A tenth of these are children that do not know yet, and a tenth are old people who do not understand anymore.
At least a tenth are students who find it irrelevant.
Women, who represent a third, are too busy to be listening.
And then there is twentieth of businessmen who have no time and a twentieth of alcoholics who do not understand anything anymore.
Then there are stoned hippies, the drunken unemployed, doped athletes, drugged yuppies, poisoned intellectuals, stoned teenagers, arguing politicians…
The ones who are left are you and me.
We could laugh.
(If we had anything to laugh at.)
